The 2003 Ski-Doo® MX Z Sport sleds are built on a brand new platform, called the REV.
The objective of the REV project was to build the best handling trail snowmobile, one that was especially capable on rough trails. In order to meet this objective, significant advances were made in: Ergonomics/driver positioning, chassis rigidity, mass centralization and front suspension.
The cornerstone of the REV platform is a new driving position, 12-inches more forward than the position on current snowmobiles. This makes the sled easier to maneuver and better isolates the driver from bumps. From that ideal ergonomic position, the team built the sled around the driver – an industry first.
In addition to the radical new driving position, five things were critical to the REV platform’s design and handling:
Pyramidal frame
Response Angle A-arm front Suspension (R.A.S.)
Steering over the engine
Mass centralization
Weight reduction
If the MX Z REV was to ride and handle like nothing else, it had to look like nothing else. So Ski-Doo snowmobile designers used several concepts new to the snowmobile industry in styling the REV platform, including unified design, edge design and celebrating the mechanicals.
With the REV project new from the ground up, Ski-Doo engineers and designers had the opportunity to refine every feature and every part of the sled.
There are a host of innovative new features on the MX Z REV, including:
1+1 seating configuration
Clamshell-opening seat trunk
Automotive-style electronic gauges
New handlebar controls
Wide-opening side panels for easy access to the mechanicals
